Project Description

Those We Lost is a World War II narrative game where the player must explore a derelict French environment to find notes telling the story of Cpl J Harrison, a soldier during the war writing down the events over a few months.

Game Interaction and Narrative

The game has no level system, it is one environment for the player to explore. The notes have dates on them but can be found in any order. It is the player’s objective to read the story in the correct order, or order the notes themselves. The narrative is linear but is discovered in a random order.

The player uses the WASD keys to move around and the MOUSE to look around. To read notes the player must be next to them and aiming at them, and pressing the ‘E’ key to open the note on screen, and again to close it.

Project Purpose

This game is made not only for gamers, but for educational purposes too. Students, historians, or museum visitors can use this game to learn a little about the war. It is not a completely educational tool as the narrative is fictional and does not reflect specific real-life stories.

Gamers are part of the target audience too. It is not the most exciting or action-packed game but with an immersive atmosphere and intriguing narrative, some gamers may enjoy it.

Project Content

The content of the game will include:

-       Menu
o   To start the game, the player must select ‘Play’
o   This screen will create the atmosphere for this game right from the very start through imagery and sound

-       World
o   The player spawns into the world and is instantly free to explore and find notes of the narrative

Technical Specifications

Those We Lost is a game created with Unity Engine and uses C# scripts to create a slick, clean game with mechanics and gameplay that reflects current game expectations and the predicted outcomes of the creators.

Whilst the game is new and growing it will remain free. However, in order to make a profit, Those We Lost may become a paid game but at a cheap and affordable cost.

Competition

In today’s market there are many indie games being produced at a high frequency. Those We Lost will face a lot of competition from these indie games and also from war based games and narrative games.

Outline Production Plan

The production of the game will begin with the design.

The world building will be the primary starting point for development. It will need to be detailed and realistic alongside an immersive feel. This is key before any coding and mechanics are brought in.

The story will be decided and written whilst the world is being built. The notes must be created and implemented into the game once the world is finished.

The coding of the game will be completed to a high standard with no bugs and glitches will be apparent when published. The title will be professional and smooth game.
